E- LEARNING AND ITS ROLE IN EDUCATION

Abstract: Education has its ultimate goal to provoke the inner self of a person but the changing scenario of the modern concept its ultimate goal change in narrow meaning to train the person according to need of society E-learning is unquestionably the major mission critical in education system the world over and is likely to remain so far for the foreseeable future. There are many reasons for it being in vogue such as globalization of commerce and citizenship and the burgeoning of information and knowledge available on internet .there is recognition of government that today economics need to be knowledge based, in which turn requires a workforce and consumer body that are characterized by flexibility in independent learning and information communication technology .as increase access to learning anytime and anywhere ensuring internet in e- learning is phenomenal.
Introduction -the concept e learning was given by Elliot -massy in 1999 and he used this method to deliver his lecture at Tech learn conference . Information technology has long past dawned ,its knowledge is now considered almost as a basic necessity .the mostly schools using computers during classes whether for basic tasks such as students report presentations or even for crucial activities such as exams .teachers giving out electronic quizzes are hardly new today To complement the use of computers ,various types of software are available .the most basic ones are the word processor ,spreadsheet creators and presentations programs .Then there are more specialized one such as attendance trackers ,educational games and graphic organizers with computers use of internet predictably follows .some classes even utilize social network for communications as evident in online groups and forums .there are also more activities in schools done over the internet .For instance ,absentee teachers may create online tutorials for students, so they would not have to miss a learning session .E- Learning also called electronic learning or web based learning .anywhere ,anytime instruction deliver through internet or a corporate intranet to students and other learners via a browser.
Definition of e-learning
E learning is defined by many peoples some of them are as given below-
Training and education over the internet to an end -user device .
According Lee and Lee (2006), “E learning is the delivery of a learning training or education program by electronic means ” .
According to Li Lau and Dharmendran (2009) E Learning is defined as education deliverd or learning conducted by web techniques .
In other words we can say that e learning is a type of online education ,training and knowledge sharing that is conducted over the internet.it can utilize in various setting ,such as academic education ,corporate training ,skill development ,professional developments .
Need of e- learning – Now in the period of information communication e learning is very important .e learning provides a platform to individual and group learning for practical and theoretical work for any student .e learning also helps in school activities and holistic development of a student and so many our day to day activities are now routinely technology based such as electronic access to cash or shopping ,that for a large majority .all of us techno -familiarity is necessary .E-learning skills e learning requires a mixture of many different skills. they have been explained below.
Reading: browsing or being able to scan a text for key points is an important skill is when reading online content.
Writing: Electronic purchasing and information searching is all around us and becoming more and pervasive. for example the word ‘Google’ has become an everyday verb used to describe electronic searching, regardless of whether itself is a search engine being used. such the pervasiveness of technology based activities across the society , few government that do not have information and technology related learning programs as part promote of their national educational policies .
Pedagogy of E-Learning: pedagogy is the science and art of teaching and learning in general. New technology brings its own rules that needs to be followed and adapted to use technology in a better way to teaching and learning .The internet and website can effectively use in education .identify the following characteristics of web according to ( Willy and Schoolar )
1-Physically of the media.
2- Conversational pragmatics.
3-Social interactions.
4-Lack of permanence.
5-Questionable authenticity.
6-Hypermedia based.
7-Multimodality.
8-Customization and personalization.
E-resources in E-learning :-some tools can be used in E-learning they can be divided into following parts
Online Resource – some online tools can be used in e learning those are
Websites : collection of web pages ,images ,videos or other digital assets that is hosted on one or more web servers accessible via internet such as Wikipedia .
E-books :-Electronic forms of text which have been published in a digital format .these can be read on computers or on reading devices like e-books
E-journals :-journals published and available online .learner can cite and submit own article ,research paper online and publish their own work in such type of journals.
E-dictionaries :-now dictionaries are also founds online in electronic form.
E-learning courses :-these courses are offered by some sites .example- www.litracy.com ,www.baycongroup.com etc.
E-library :-the library resources that are available online .faculty members and students are given ID and passwords to access the articles ,books services etc. online .
Search engines :-search engines are programs who search documents for specified list of documents .
Off-line Resources:- some things used to improve e-learning they are as follows
Ms-office Applications :-this application includes word, Excel ,power point etc. learner can type his course assignments in word and do calculation in excel . and he can prepare presentations in power point.
CDs/DVDs:-Educational CDs and DVDs includes so many types of educational material such as Encyclopedia , dictionaries, etc.
Mobile Learning: Mobile learning, or m-learning, is a dynamic subset of e-learning that utilizes mobile technologies-such as smartphones, tablets, and laptops-to enhance educational accessibility and engagement.
Advantages of E-learning :some inherent strengths and advantages of e-learning are as follows :
Access to educational resources from outside the institution on a global and instant basis .
Quick and easy way to create ,update and revise course material through low cost.
Flexible and increased interaction with students through e- mail, WhatsApp ,chat boat Instagram and other social plateforms.
Location and time independent delivery of course material such as notes ,diagrams reading list etc.
Ability to combine graphics, text and multimedia to prepare qualitative learning material.
Ability to allow real-time access to experts with minimum loss of productivity.
Interactive and dynamic learning experience through online assessment tools and animated learning objects.
Independent delivery through any computer with a simple browser interface .
Opportunities for international, cross-cultural and collaborative learning and ability to serve a large number of students at a potentially reduced cost.
So we can say that e-learning offers new opportunities, learning in new environments for both students and teachers to enrich their learning and teaching in a virtual environment .
Although there are so many advantages of E-learning but some of disadvantages are also this method are as follows
Social interactions are reduced and students have no opportunity to complete project work or presentation in a group .
This is not good for everything .for instance in psychomotor procedural learning.
For high density multimedia e-learning courses broadband network is preferred to efficiently load high density graphics and interactive videos for viewing.
e-learning courses can get quickly outdated ,posting updating and maintenance difficulties to keep up with dynamic knowledge.
At last we can say that e-learning is very important for our present and future because every student and children want to learn very quickly and e-learning can fulfill their needs.
